The goal of E.M.D.R. treatment is to assist a client in transforming the dysfunctional effects of a negative traumatic event to a level of healing through a technique of "de-sensitization". A trained clinician utilizes a specified directive of client eye-movement as a process of decreasing the traumatic impact of a crisis memory which may be impairing a client's positive functioning.

 
WHO MIGHT BE A CANDIDATE FOR E.M.D.R.?

Individuals who are suffering the after effects (ie. anxiety, depression, fear, sleep disturbance) of a traumatic event.

TYPES OF TRAUMA?
  • rape
  • a severe vehicle accident
  • a criminal act such as robbery
  • an assault/abuse
  • troubling childhood memories
WHO PROVIDES THE THERAPEUTIC TECHNIQUE OF E.M.D.R.?

Ethically, only specially trained, approved clinicians should utilize E.M.D.R. as a psychotherapeutic intervention.
